The Medical Marijuana Program (MMP) regulates the manufacture, sale, and use of medical marijuana in NYS, making medical marijuana a treatment option for patients suffering from certain serious health conditions. A-Registered Practitioners may certify patients with one of the severe debilitating or life-threatening conditions, recommending the medical use of marijuana. Patients can use medical marijuana if they have been diagnosed with a specific severe, debilitating or life-threatening condition accompanied by an associated or complicating condition, and if a registered health care provider certifies them for the program.
Severe conditions that qualify include:
Cancer
HIV/AIDS
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS)
Parkinson’s disease
Multiple sclerosis
Spinal cord nerve injury with intractable spasticity
Epilepsy
Inflammatory bowel disease
Chronic pain
Opioid alternative for pain that degrades health and functional capability
Neuropathy
Huntington’s disease
Post-traumatic stress disorder
Substance use disorder
Post-traumatic stress disorder;
Opioid use disorder, but only if enrolled in a treatment program certified pursuant to Article 32 of the Mental Hygiene Law
Patients must also have one of the following associated or complicating conditions:
Cachexia or wasting syndrome
Severe or chronic pain
Severe nausea
Seizures
Severe or persistent muscle spasms
Post-traumatic stress disorder;
Opioid use disorder, but only if enrolled in a treatment program certified pursuant to Article 32 of the Mental Hygiene Law
